Bend Acupuncture & Moxibustion 鍼灸
Zhēnjiǔ in Chinese or Shinkyu in Japanese, traditionally Acupuncture and Moxibustion have been closely integrated as one word (鍼灸), often translated as “Acupuncture-Moxibustion” or “Acu-Moxa therapy.” It has thousands of years of clinical history in Asia and is one of the main pillars of Eastern Medicine. Acupuncture and Moxibustion are now used in the West as safe and effective, non-invasive therapy.

Acupuncture in Bend 鍼
Acupuncture is a technique that involves the insertion of very thin sterile needles into the body to stimulate specific points to systematically cause physiological responses in order to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. The needles may be manipulated and or left alone for a period of time depending on the treatment strategy for the particular case during a session. Our Bend acupuncture services offer a non-invasive experience that is generally comfortable and painless to patients.
Modern research shows acupuncture increases blood flow, to promote and repair the healthy function of organs and tissues. Acupuncture is known to physiologically stimulate the para-sympathetic nervous system, decreasing the body’s cortisol level and releasing endorphins, resulting in muscle relaxation and pain relief.
All acupuncture needles used at Shizendo come in a sterilized package and are used one time only.
Moxibustion in Bend 灸
It is also often simply called “Moxa.” Moxibustion is a treatment technique that involves burning Mugwort herb (Artemisia Vulgaris) either directly on the skin or indirectly, to stimulate the appropriate acupuncture points to affect preferred physiological responses similar to acupuncture.
The use of moxa differs from acupuncture in a sense that it is a heat therapy and when it’s used directly on skin the beneficial compounds/alkaloids are physically absorbed into the body through opening of the pores. The moxibustion technique is often used in conjunction with acupuncture technique when appropriate.
